Over the last eight years, Sharon has worked with African Parks in pursuit of her interest in preserving the African elephant, especially, but all wildlife and its habitat on the continent. She has been a regular contributor and advocate and her enthusiasm and positive energy have been an inspiration. My only regret is that we have not had more of her time.

Sharon is a genuinely enlightened philanthropist. She and her husband Larry engage personally with every area they get involved in. Two of Sharon’s passions – education and the arts – have been the object of her philanthropy and our collaboration of many years within 92Y. She is acutely aware of the need of young people to be exposed to high arts and we make sure that every program she supports is available to high school students to participate in and meet with the artists. It is her support that makes it possible. I love discussing and working with her on projects of joint passion.

Sharon joined The Little Orchestra Society Board four years ago and immediately distinguished herself through her generosity, thoughtful questions and enthusiasm about our mission and programs. In June 2017, Sharon was elected President of the Board and is leading the Board forward with dedication and focus. She is a great listener and problem solver, which is a tremendous asset to a non-profit organization. I am thrilled to partner with Sharon as we build our strategic plan that will take LOS from our 70th season to our 75th.

Working with Sharon on two film projects continues to be a delightful journey. With her gracious help in funding and fundraising, with her candor in responding the edits and sound feedback along the way, one of our films, Perfectly Normal for Me, is a standout at the Tenth Anniversary ReelAbilities Festival, which will be in New York in March 2018, and thereafter in cities around the country. Another of our joint projects, The Girl With the Rivet Gun, a complex, tablet-based learning venture, is also a recipient of her funding and patient moral support. The best gift of all is Sharon’s unconditional friendship.
